Honoring the Past, Moving Toward the Future: The Journey of a Legacy Sculpture
Jones Logistics (JoLo) has been in business for nearly 26 years. During this time, we’ve always taken great pride in our ability to create customized solutions and haul complex loads of freight. In that same spirit, our team recently undertook a deeply meaningful job: coordinating the delivery of a distinguished sculpture from Columbia, MS, to our new headquarters (HQ) in Midtown Hattiesburg, MS.
The Jones legacy is steeped in history, tracing back to 1949 with the founding of Jones Lumber in Sandy Hook, MS. What began as a singular business with a hardwood sawmill has grown into a multifaceted umbrella of companies, but our roots remain an integral part of the story. This sculpture, titled “Iconic,” is a testament to those roots.
Originally displayed in the courtyard of the former Jones HQ in Columbia, MS, the sculpture—crafted by local artist, Jeremy Thomley, with components from the original sawmill—represents the dichotomy between two distinct leaders: Brett and Jonathan Jones. The rugged side of the structure symbolizes Brett Jones's hands-on leadership, while the sleek, stainless-steel side embodies Jonathan Jones's precision and innovation, reflecting a balance of craftsmanship and forward-thinking leadership.
As we embark on a new chapter in the Jones story, relocating the “Iconic” sculpture to our new HQ was a fitting way to honor our journey and celebrate the legacy that continues to inspire us.
For this move, the JoLo team devised a detailed plan and turned to our trusted network of carriers to find the right equipment and a driver to take on the haul. We partnered with Devin Patterson of D & JP Trucking, a highly skilled hotshot driver based in Hattiesburg, whose expertise proved invaluable in this move.
Although not oversized or complex by industry standards, this move came with its own challenges. The sculpture was welded to a concrete foundation, requiring careful grinding and maneuvering to separate the pieces without compromising their integrity. The combination of Devin’s precision and the craftsmanship of the JoLo team ensured the sculpture was safely transported and delivered with the utmost care.
Now proudly displayed at our new headquarters, this sculpture serves as a daily reminder of our enduring legacy and the commitment that drives us forward. It symbolizes not just where we’ve been, but the exciting path ahead for Jones Logistics and the entire Jones family of companies.
